Looking forward to spring 2011

March 16, 2011

Another long winter has hopefully come and gone.  We are hard at work here at Superior Lawn and Landscape, Inc. preparing for spring.  If you would like to have a professional landscape design and estimate created for your landscape, or would like to sign up for one of our maintenance services, please give us a call at (810) 233-0233.  If you call now, you can be first on our list for spring installation, and the first on your block to enjoy your new landscaping!  Remember, we specialize in resort living at home, why not spoil yourself?

We did a lot of great looking jobs last year, check out our portfolio to see them.  We're looking forward to another great year and hope you can be a part of the process!

Beginning the 2010 Season

I know there is still snow on the ground, and the groundhog has yet to tell us if spring is right around the corner, but in the landscape world it is never too early to begin the planning process.  Regardless of what the weather is currently, we all know that spring will be here before we know it.  In preparation for this, now is a great time to call to set up your design consultation.

If you are interested in having work done in spring please give me a call now.  It is common for me to work on designs in February and March with anticipation of early April installation.  When calling the office ask for Jennifer, and I will be happy to schedule a time that is convenient for both of us to begin the design process.  This will give us plenty of time to design your perfect landscape, and schedule your installation, before the spring thaw occurs.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.  Stay warm, and remember spring is right around the corner!  (We can only hope!)

Jennifer Hunter, BLA

Fall is the best time to plant

Although the weather is growing cooler, there are still many things left to do where landscaping is concerned.

1.    Call to schedule your landscape design for installation.

Fall is the best time to plant because the plants have an easier time adjust to their new surroundings.  Due to the cool days, newly planted trees and shrubs do not have to struggle through the hottest days of summer while trying to establish their root systems.  The plants are already going dormant, and therefore can rest throughout fall and winter.  This results in a strong root system and a healthy plant when it leafs out again next spring.  So call Jennifer for your fall consultation and enjoy all that your landscape has to offer next year!

2.     Have Carol schedule your irrigation winterization.

Now is also the time to schedule the winterization of your irrigation system.  Plants don't need as much water during the fall, and water freezing in the lines can damage existing irrigation systems by spring.  Scheduling your lines to be blown out now will save you a lot of aggravation later.

3.     Cut back perennials, add mums for fall color, bulbs for spring color.

Once perennials have died back and the leaves are brown it is time to cut them back for spring.  Typically all that is left after cutting them back is 4-6" of stem above the mulch.  This process actually helps the plant generate more energy in its root system before it comes up again in spring.

Annual beds and pots can now be prepped and planted with mums for some beautiful fall color.  Mums will last through a few frosts, but are not considered a perennial in Michigan.  Here they are treated as an annual, but hold great color as the days grow cooler.

Bulbs should also be planted now so they are ready to bloom in spring.

If we can assist you with any of the items listed above, please don't hesitate to call Superior Lawn & Landscape to schedule your appointment!
